PROFILE

Dr. Abdur Rehman Jami is a highly motivated and dedicated professor of Applied Mathematics and Statistics with a passion for teaching, research, and leadership. He has a reputation for being innovative and imaginative in his teaching style, and is committed to continuous learning and improvement. In addition to his extensive experience teaching at the university level, he has also served as a Head of Department, Administrator, Housemaster, and Assistant Housemaster at top boarding colleges. He is proficient in using various technologies, such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google Meet, for online teaching. Dr. Jami’s research interests are diverse and include applied mathematics, general relativity, relativistic astrophysics, mathematical physics, and gravitational theories.

He is also the author of “Beauty & Mathematics,” an acclaimed book that explores the intersection of mathematics and nature. In addition to his research and teaching, Dr. Jami has also served as a reviewer for the book “Statistics for Management and Economics,” published by Cengage USA/UK. He is an internationally recognized mathematician and researcher, and is also a new entrant in the field of astrophysics.

Teaching Philosophy

The teaching philosophy as a Mathematics Educator comprises my primary goal to develop enthusiasm, expand knowledge and question the various elements of this beautiful field of Mathematics . I believe that every student is unique and needs a stimulating environment to reach his/her highest mathematic potential. As an educator, I am the guide that allows students to explore their natural curiosities to direct his/her learning.

Students must have real world experiences, practice skills  with authentic activities and have the opportunity to take risks while learning mathematics. Students require opportunities to establish connections between mathematics and real world experiences through project-based learning and the use of student-centered teaching strategies. Students must discover mathematic rules and how to apply these rules. They also must been encouraged to grow within the mathematics community by taking risks with a variety of techniques for solving complicated mathematic problems and discovering their own mathematic potential and give them a learning environment because environment amplifies motivation which is a source of achieving all the set goals.

During my teaching I use explanation, demonstration, collaboration and lecturing methods and impart the knowledge of mathematics lined with the Blooms taxonomy’s requirements. Blooms’ taxonomy is also very helpful to design balanced and standardized formative and summative assessments for the students. I also integrate latest technology (e.g. Graphic calculators, my own you-tube videos, e-assessments, ICT) whenever required while teaching the students and ensure education should be both challenging and enjoyable. I also believe in confidence, curiosity and creativity as the three ideals underpinning life-long learning and seek through well-being-focused teaching techniques to instill these into all the students.

The love I have for teaching Mathematics keeps me highly motivated, dependable and gives me the need to be professionally flexible. My standardized and innovative teaching techniques and strategies not only assist the students to improve their critical thinking and problem-solving skills but also promote long life learners, which is of my highest priority as an educator.
